base notes	Candidate GSSP for base-Valanginian places this event as the Boundary event. GTS2020 age ASSIGNED by Gale-Gradstein as 137.7 Ma (but logic is unclear). "Detailed integrated biostratigraphies of calpionellids, ammonites and calcareous nannofossils carried out in the sedimentary successions of the Vocontian Basin ..., Betic Cordillera ... and Western Balkan Mountains ... have documented that the FO of C. darderi (e.g. the base of the Calpionellites Zone) occurs almost in coincidence with the base of Th. pertransiens ammonite Zone and it is followed later by the FO of nannofossil Ca. oblongata .... Thus, the Berriasian - Valanginian boundary can be precisely identified according to these integrated bio-horizons. (Charbonnier et al, 2013).
