Onset is a strong restriction of the connections to open ocean; had been correlated to Ser3 SB (W. Piller in GTS2012), but "magnetostratigraphic dated as 12.65 Ma" (GTS2020 => mid C5Ar.1r, 12.65 is used here as fixed age). "A significant reorganization of the biota occurred concomitantly with the beginning of Sarmantian (the Badenian Sarmatian Extinction Event)" (GTS2020). "During the Sarmatian the Pannonian Basin became isolated first, followed later by the Dacian Basin, and developed as a solo paleogeographic entity separated from the rest the Euxinian Caspian part of the Eastern Paratethys				comp notes
